Another Awesome Day!!

Tom is still in Intensive Care but he is much better tonight than he was this morning.

When Pat, Allison and I arrived in Tom's room this morning, we were pretty upset. It seems Tom didn't sleep all night due to pain, strange surroundings, and lots of bad noise, so this AM he looked pretty terrible. All he wanted to do most of the day was sleep, which was good.

About 4:00 the physical therapist came in, got him moving his right leg and hip that have been giving him lots of pain, at the same time being numb, and Tom wasn't able to move them much. But the PT got him going. With a lot of effort, she and the RN got him moving, rolled to his right side, feet over the side of the bed, and leveraged him to a sitting position. No small fete.

He loved it!! Loved it so much that he stood up for a few minutes. The leg and hip held him up and still worked. Most of all, the standing position seemed to release the pinched nerve or whatever was wrong, and he's now pretty pain free! Except for the incision of cours. It's about a foot wide, horizontal across the belly on his left side, just below the ribs and yet a few inches above the belly button. The incision is "well-dressed". Tom holds a pillow over it and applies a little pressure when he wants to move.

So, what I'm trying to say is, he's doing great!! The nurse thinks they will move him out of Intensive Care and onto the cardiac/vascular ward tomorrow. He is looking forward to watching the Seahawks football game. Go Blue!!
